About us

A small company that makes careful software.

Momo Designs cc is a South African software company in Gqeberha, on the Eastern Cape coast. We make two programs, and we would rather make two well than twenty in a hurry.

Scriptorium is a word processor for documents that have to look right: books, exam papers with their memos, reports, song sheets, notices for the wall. It is built on Markdown, the plain text that AI programs write in, so what an AI writes becomes a proper document, and nobody has to learn a symbol of it. It speaks 60 languages, including every written official language of South Africa, because a program should speak to people in the language they think in.

Cali is for calibration laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. It keeps equipment records, corrects results for the conditions they were measured in, works out measurement uncertainty and writes the certificates, so that a laboratory spends its time measuring rather than filing.

Both programs run on your own computer. Your documents and records are yours: they stay on your machine, in your hands, and we never see them. Scriptorium's engine is written first in longHand, a programming language of our own, then translated for the program and checked against the original, and every release passes a long run of automated tests before it reaches you.
